2011 Pre-Season Power Rankings

Part of the joy of the NFL season is reveling in the unimportant, frivolous task of prediction. While power rankings don’t exactly fall under the category of prediction, they are both meaningless and often controversial. I participate in ranking teams for the same reason that I participate in creating mock drafts.

They’re too damn fun. Let’s go.

  1. New England Patriots
  2. Their personnel moves never ceise to amaze me.

  3. Green Bay Packers
  4. Young champions still on the rise.

  5. Philadelphia Eagles
  6. Bold free agency moves.

  7. Pittsburgh Steelers
  8. Terrifying defense.

  9. New Orleans Saints
  10. How did the Seahawks beat them?

  11. New York Jets
  12. A lot to prove.

  13. Atlanta Falcons
  14. Matt Ryan will either make or break them.

  15. Chicago Bears
  16. Curious team.

  17. San Diego Chargers
  18. Even more curious.

  19. Indianapolis Colts
  20. Window closing?

  21. Baltimore Ravens
  22. Tough luck in free agency.

  23. New York Giants
  24. We’ll see.

  25. Jacksonville Jaguars
  26. Closing the gap.

  27. Houston Texans
  28. Which Texans will we see this year?

  29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  30. Young and talented.

  31. Detroit Lions
  32. How much of this is hype?

  33. Kansas City Chiefs
  34. Falling back to Earth.

  35. Dallas Cowboys
  36. Did they exist in free agency?

  37. Miami Dolphins
  38. Caught in the wrong division.

  39. Cleveland Browns
  40. Also caught in the wrong division.

  41. St. Louis Rams
  42. The right division.

  43. Arizona Cardinals
  44. Kolb should help, a lot.

  45. Buffalo Bills
  46. Just not looking very good.

  47. Seattle Seahawks
  48. How did they beat the Saints?

  49. Washington Redskins
  50. One big mess.

  51. Denver Broncos
  52. Quarterback controversy is never good.

  53. Minnesota Vikings
  54. McNabb should help some.

  55. Tennessee Titans
  56. Too many new parts.

  57. San Francisco 49ers
  58. Who’s the quarterback going to be?

  59. Oakland Raiders
  60. *Sigh*

  61. Carolina Panthers
  62. Lacking the overall talent to succeed.

  63. Cincinnati Bengals
  64. Is ownership okay with losing?
