Atogwe to Redskins, Sanders to Chargers

According to a pair of reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Redskins and Chargers made the free agent safety class significantly weaker. Arguably the top two safeties without teams, O.J. Atogwe, formerly of the Rams, and Bob Sanders, formerly of the Colts, have now signed contracts with the afore mentioned teams.

The Redskins have agreed upon a 5 year, $23 million deal with Atogwe. The Chargers have agreed upon a 1 year deal with Sanders, with terms not yet released. Sanders passed a physical with the Jaguars, but left Jacksonville without a contract. The terms of the contract could be revealing as to why the Jaguars didn’t sign Sanders when given the opportunity.

The move by the Chargers paves the way for safety Eric Weddle to hit the open market and it’s hard to imagine Weddle n0t receiving a look from the Jaguars.
