Injury Updates: Bad News For Britton, Mathis

The Jaguars announced today that Eben Britton would be placed on IR, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Since his rookie season, he hasn’t developed as we would have hoped. The loss is minimal as he’s been either inactive or ineffective for the most part this season, but that wasn’t the only piece of bad news the Jaguars received today.

Tania Ganguli reported via Twitter that Rashean Mathis will be put on IR with a torn ACL:

“Rashean Mathis is going on IR with a torn ACL. #Jaguars”

The fact that the Jaguars beat the Colts is unsurprising, but the loss of Mathis is huge. He’s been an integral part of the Jaguars’ rejuvenated secondary, and it’ll be up to the Jaguars’ backup DBs to once again fill the shoes of a missing CB. Hopefully, they do as good a job as they did in Derek Cox’s absence. I guess we’ll find out how well the Jaguars’ defense responds to another key injury.
