Jaguars players want Jones-Drew to be fined according to Pete Prisco

According to Pete Prisco, Jaguars players aren’t a fan of the idea of letting Maurice Jones-Drew coming into camp without being fined.

“As far as the fines, the language in the CBA says ‘up to $30,000 a day.’ Now I was in the locker room the other day and I talked to a bunch of the players and they all expect him and they want him to be fined something because there has to be a message from Mike Mularkey. So I think he’s going to get fined, I think they’ll lower the fine and sometimes these guys go ‘alright I’m going to fine you and wink wink we won’t really collect it.’ But I do think he has to be fined something by the front office.” -Pete Prisco (H/T to Adam Stites)

As Prisco says, the CBA indicates that the Jaguars can fine Jones-Drew up to $30,000 per day. According to Adam Stites’ math, the maximum fine currently stands at $930,000, but it’s highly unlikely the Jaguars would actually fine their star runner that much money.

As I’ve continually said, Maurice Jones-Drew needs to get in camp and begin learning the Jaguars’ new offense. It’s hard to imagine he’ll be completely up to speed by the time the season starts, but I still get the feeling he’ll be back with the team at that point.
