RIP MCA

Yesterday was a very sad day for any true fan of hip-hop.  We all lost one of the great human beings when Adam Yauch, A.K.A  MCA of the Beastie Boys passed away.  MCA was a founding member of the Beastie Boys along side Adam “Ad Rock” Horowitz and Mike “Mike D” Diamond. I was just 16 when they unleashed their first album on us all and changed the face & history of music forever.  They had a new style, they dropped the knowledge and the beats, they opened doors for many more bands & musicians to follow in their footsteps.  They were true leaders & innovators.

The Beastie Boys will always be my favorite band.  They changed the way my brother, my friends, myself and hip-hop fans around the world viewed music.  They came out of Brooklyn with the likes of RUN-DMC & Public Enemy.  They helped L.L. Cool J get his first break.  Their music made you want to move, their videos were funny, their look changed over the years, they sampled tracks & turned them into gold.

I remember how much I wanted to be like the Beastie Boys. My brother & I lip-synced to their songs on home-made videos.  We played their CDs in our cars & on our boom boxes.  My kids love the Beastie Boys and still make me play “Intergalactic” as loud as possible whenever they’re in my car. The Beastie Boys are a part of my life & I know I’m not the only one out there.

So let’s all raise a glass of Brass Monkey in the memory of Adam Yauch / MCA.  We love you.  We respect you. We will all miss you.  Peace.

from No Sleep til Brooklyn

Ain’t seen the sun since we started this band.  MCA, get on the mic my man. Born & breed in Brooklyn, the USA.  They call me Adam Yauch, but I’m MCA.  Like a lemon to a lime, a lime to a lemon.  I sip the def ale with all the fine women.  Got limos, arenas, TV shows.  Autograph pictures and classy hos. Step off homes, get out of my way.  Taxing little girlies from here to L.A.  Waking up before I get to sleep.  Cause I’ll be rocking this party eight days a week.

from Sure Shot

Cause you can’t, you won’t and you don’t stop.  Yo MCA, come and rock the sure shot.  Strictly hand held is the style I go.  Never rock the mic with the panty hose.  I strap on my ear goggles and I’m ready to go.  Cause at the boards is the man they call the Mario.  Timing like a clock when I rock the hip-hop.  Top notch is my stock on the soap box.  I’ve got more rhymes than I’ve got grey hairs.  And that’s alot because I’ve got my share.  I keep my underwear up with a piece of elastic.  I use a bullshit mic that’s make of plastic. To send my rhymes to all the nations.  Like ma bell, I’ve got ill communications.  I want to say a little something that’s long overdue.  The disrespect to women has got to be through.  To all the mothers and sisters and the wives and friends.  I want to offer my love and respect to the end.

Adam Yauch / MCA  / Beastie Boy forever
