gotta get him

The New York Giants beat the Patriots to win another Super Bowl yesterday and a big part of that victory was WR Mario Manningham.  In what could end up being a huge audition for free agency, on the biggest stage in the NFL, Manningham got it done in crunch time.  His 38 yard catch down the sideline wiht 2 defenders draped all over him sparked the giants final drive that ate up the clock & put the Giants in the lead with 57 seconds left in the game.  Manningham had a total of 5 catches for 73 yards in the game, most of which came on the final drive.  Mario showed great control in bringing in that 38 yard pass and getting both feet down before being knocked out of bounds.  The Patriots had Nicks and Cruz bottled up and still got burned by Manningham despite the double coverage.

As I said earlier, this could be a major audition for a new team for Manningham.  He will be a free agent soon & one of the teams that should be very interested in landing him is the Jaguars.  I don’t know about any of you, but I get all giddy & geeked up just thinking about the Gabbert throwing touchdowns to Manningham & Colston, along with a draft pick like Jeffery or McNutt next season.  There is no doubt in my mind that the Jaguars will be the front runners for Manningham’s services during free agency.  He would created major mismatches for defenses & doesn’t drop many passes.  I truly believe that Manningham will be wearing teal next year (or maybe black, if the rumors of Kahn bringing back those unis are true).

Mario has leapfrogged pass other possible free agent targets at WR in my opinion.  Players like Harry Douglas, Dwayne Bowe, Vincent or Desean Jackson, Robert Meachem, Reggie Wayne or Pierre Garcon should be considered the 3rd option behind Colston & Manningham in my eyes.  Obviously the Jaguars will look at all of these players, but Colston & Manningham should be the main targets at WR. Manningham also doesn’t have any history of attitude problems or off the feild incidents that could cause the Jaguars GM to shy away from players like Vincent or Desean.  Bowe has shown a tendency to not give his all in crunch time.  Wayne is simply too old.  I believe the Jaguars will want players that can be signed to more that just a 2 year contract.  Douglas has his obvious ties to coach Mularkey and has proven he can preform in big games.  Meachem is big & fast and Garcon gets open easily & runs great routes.

This is only my opinion, but I see the Jags going after Colston & Manningham in a big way.  If they can only get 1 of them, then they will look towards Meachem, Garcon & Douglas.  Even though he is older, Wayne should also be concidered because of his production and ability to stay healthy…..not to mention he catches everything thrown at him.  I also see the Jags drafting a WR or 2 this off season.  With the likes of Jeffery, McNutt, Sanu & Quick all being available when the Jags are on the clock in the first 2 rounds there is no reason why they can’t double-dip in the WR pool during the draft.  Whichever scenario happens for the Jaguars, getting Mario Manningham has to be a big part of it now.
